4 Exercises To Help You Stay Fit In Your Wheelchair

Life in a wheelchair is tough. You’re restricted from going certain places or doing certain things and this isn’t just bad for your mental health, but it’s bad for your physical health too.

Many who are bound to wheelchairs don’t get enough exercise. But there are plenty of exercises you can do whilst in your wheelchair.

Here we’re going to look at how you can stay fit in your chair with a few simple exercises.

You’re going to want to look at purchasing a resistance band and weights. Using these tools you’ll be able to get involved in a fitness regime and stay in shape.

Chest pull

Fold your resistance band in half and then grip each end of it in front your chest. Put your arms out in front of your body with your elbows bent, then start to pull the resistance band apart, bringing it closer to your chest and then straightening your arms. You should then release the tension and bring your arms back to the starting position.

Bicep curl

Position the resistance band under the wheel chair wheels and secure it. Now grab the handles and keeping your elbows at your side and your palms facing outward, raise your hands towards your shoulder, and then lower them once more. Remember, don’t bend your forearm, keep in line with your wrists.

Tricep extensions

With the band still secured in the same position it was for the bicep curl, grab both handles and pull your arms close to the side of your head with your elbows pointing forward. Extend you arms up towards the ceiling, and then slowly bring them back down. The only movement you want to be making here is your elbows bending and straightening.

Chest press

Secure the band to the back of your wheelchair and then bring the handles to your chest level. Start to press the bands forward until your arms are straight out in front of you. Don’t lock your arms, but keep the tension throughout your movement.

These exercises are really easy, and shouldn’t take long to master. So now you can keep on top of fitness regime each week. Good luck!
